Boosters: what do they do?

Paula’s Choice Skincare has various ‘boosters’ that can help you with ageing skin and specific, persistent skin problems. What do these ‘boosters’ do exactly, how do you add them to your skincare routine and what results can you expect?

What are boosters?

We are always looking for ways to improve the appearance of our skin. This has inspired us to develop special treatments that we call boosters. Each booster contains a specific mix of ingredients, with one ingredient (or one specialized group of ingredients) in a higher concentration than you would find in products such as moisturisers or serums.

The focus is on the many benefits that that specific ingredient offers for various skin problems. If you are happy with the serum you currently use, you may not need a booster. So we don’t advise you to replace your serum with a booster, but use a booster alongside if you want or need to.

Each booster offers you the option of adapting your skincare routine to your skin’s requirements. This may differ from day to day or year to year. For example, for seasonal dry skin or if you have dry skin in areas our Moisture Renewal Oil Booster can do wonders. If you have dehydrated, combination skin our Hyaluronic Acid Booster is like a tall glass of water for skin and it keeps the water in the layers of skin all day.

How to add a booster to your skincare routine

  • Like all Paula’s Choice Skincare routines you always start with cleanser, toner, and then exfoliant.
  • The rest of your skincare routine is applied in order of consistency. Meaning the most liquid products go on first and the more creamy products last. If all you products are more liquidy and light then the order doesn’t matter.
  • The only exception is that during the day the last product you apply is always your sunscreen with SPF 30 or greater.
  • Our boosters can be used daily, whenever and as often as you wish. You can also use them around the eyes. Experiment with how you use the booster to determine what works best for you.

How do I use the boosters alongside my weekly AHA treatment?

For those of you who use our best-selling Resist Anti-Aging 10% AHA Exfoliant you would apply your booster in the same order as you would normally: cleanse, tone, exfoliant and then follow with the rest of your skincare routine.
